Yahoo Mail steps in with some HTML5 goodness for the iPad, but does it beat out Apple’s standard Mail app?
With the iPad being the the hottest new gadget, users are scouring the web to find the best possible apps and mobile websites to make their device time most enjoyable. Yahoo has stepped things up and tweaked their Mail interface to be faster and more reliable in an optimized dual pane view. Yahoo Mail for the iPad uses local caching so that files can be accessed when an Internet connection isn’t available. They have also included a “Smart” search feature that helps users find and organize messages, imported content, photos and file attachements.
Users of clean interfaces and easy to use applications will find this to be of interest. However, Apple’s Mail app for the iPad already does a great job of this, and comes with a lot of top features that are not in the Yahoo Mail optimized website, so it’s going to take a lot of convincing for users to switch. Stay tuned for further updates from Yahoo as they continue to push forward with this initiative.
If you are thinking about switching, or at least trying the mobile website out, Yahoo Mail is able to pull in your Gmail, Hotmail and other email into the website by using the alternate email address feature.
Do you think Yahoo’s HTML5 Mail for the iPad could be in the running?
